Frenetic changes in the automotive industry- Technology change and knowledge transformation in the focus

In recent years, the automotive and componentsmanufacturing segments have undergone rapid changes. The automotive supply chains are mainly affected by tightening climatepolicy, digitalisation and generationalchange. These changes pose significant challenges for companies, especially in securing their workforce.
The automotivemanufacturing sector is a cornerstone of the Hungarian industry. At a recent trade event, Gergely Fábián, State Secretary for Industrial Policy and Technology, emphasised the pivotal role of this sector, stating that vehicle and battery exports contribute to almost a quarter of Hungary's exports and represent 18% of the GDP. This underscores the urgency of remaining competitive in the future and adapting to the post-2035 market and regulatory environment.
To support the planning and implementation of the automotive competitiveness strategy, ZONE Cluster conducted a study on industry trends, identified the sector's competency matrix, and identified the basic requirements and tools for workforce transformation (labourtransitionplan).
Our research has shown that the most significant challenges are currently the regulatory changes that are driving the intensive transformation of the sector, the existence of industry skill gaps as the main constraints to workforce transformation, and the pressing need for reskilling and upskilling. The transformation of industry knowledge is the key to developing Hungarian suppliers (especially the Tier 1 segment), increasing domestic SMEs' added value, and channelling them into the value chain.

One of the objectives of our project is to develop a comprehensive, innovative training pilot programme that can provide appropriate responses to these challenges and help employees and employers to adapt.
The research report and the training programme material will be made public. We will be back soon with more details, which you can read here on the ZONE Cluster website.
